چکیده

We use Bloch oscillations to accelerate coherently Rubidium atoms. The variation of the velocity induced by this acceleration is an integer number times the recoil velocity due to the absorption of one photon. The measurement of the velocity variation is achieved using two velocity selective Raman πpulses: the first pulse transfers atoms from the hyperfine state 5S1/2, |F = 2, mF = 0〉 to 5S1/2, |F = 1,mF = 0〉 into a narrow velocity class. After the acceleration of this selected atomic slice, we apply the second Raman pulse to bring the resonant atoms back to the initial state 5S1/2, |F = 2, mF = 0〉. The populations in (F = 1 and F = 2) are measured separately by using a one-dimensional time-of-flight technique. To plot the final velocity distribution we repeat this procedure by scanning the Raman beam frequency of the second pulse. This two π-pulses system constitutes then a velocity sensor. Any noise in the relative phase shift of the Raman beams induces an error in the measured velocity. In this paper we present a theoretical and an experimental analysis of this velocity sensor, which take into account the phase fluctuations during the Raman pulses. PACS. Reinterpretation of velocity-dependent atomic friction: influence of the inherent instrumental noise in friction force microscopes.

We have applied both the master equation method and harmonic transition state theory to interpret the velocity-dependent friction behavior observed in atomic friction experiments. To understand the discrepancy between attempt frequencies measured in atomic force microscopy experiments and those estimated by theoretical models, both thermal noise and instrumental noise are introduced into the mo...

Measuring the deposited energy from a non-ionizing laser beam in water by digital holographic interferometry

Digital Holographic interferometry is a powerful and widely used optical technique for accurate measurement of variations in physical quantities such as density, refractive index, and etc. In this study, an experimental digital holographic interferometry setup was designed and used to measure the amount of energy changes induced by absorption of radiation from a non-ionizing infrared laser beam...

Four-wire orthogonal structure for accurate measurement of fluid velocity and wind flow direction using silicon micro-machining on silicon nitride membranes

Microelectromechanical thermal sensors are one of the most accurate and important tools for measuring the direction and velocity of an acoustic wave and winds. Detection of wind direction and speed in different ranges has different applications such as meteorology, wind power plants, gas flow measurement in smart building and gas consumption of power plants. In this paper, a four wires sensor i...

Low-noise high-density alkali-metal scalar magnetometer

We present an experimental and theoretical study of a scalar atomic magnetometer using an oscillating field-driven Zeeman resonance in a high-density optically pumped potassium vapor. We describe an experimental implementation of an atomic gradiometer with a noise level below 10 fT Hz−1/2, fractional field sensitivity below 10−9 Hz−1/2, and an active measurement volume of about 1.5 cm3. We show...
